THE HISTORIC PARK INN HOTEL, Mason City – A Smart Stay in the City
About the Hotel
Historic Frank Lloyd Wright
The Historic Park Inn Hotel in Mason City, Iowa, is the last remaining hotel designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. Completed in 1910, it showcases his Prairie School style with intricate brickwork, stained glass windows, and a cantilevered roof. The 27 rooms maintain Wright's original design while integrating modern amenities like air conditioning, smart TVs, and high-speed Wi-Fi.
Unique Room Designs
Each of the 27 rooms has a distinct layout, featuring handcrafted woodwork, heated bathroom floors, and Lutron lighting. The Historical Suite includes two bedrooms connected by a vintage bathroom with a clawfoot tub. ADA-compliant rooms offer roll-in showers and adjustable features.
On-Site Dining
The hotel houses two restaurants: The Draftsman and Leadlight. Leadlight, named after Wright's stained-glass designs, serves Midwest-inspired dishes like bacon cheeseburgers on pretzel buns and grilled Texas toast sandwiches. Guests receive exclusive dining promotions at check-in.

The hotel is a 5-minute walk from Central Park and the Charles H. MacNider Art Museum. Lime Creek Nature Center, 3.5 km away, features interactive exhibits and a bird-feeding station. East Park, 2 km away, offers 57 acres of trails, fishing rivers, and a historic steam locomotive.
Event & Business Services
The hotel's Library and Wine Cellar Room host meetings and post-event meals. Services include 24-hour front desk, business center, and complimentary parking. Wright on the Park, a nonprofit, assists with tours of Wright-designed buildings in Mason City.

The room was spacious and comfortable, but the dining options could use some improvement, especially during breakfast. Overall, it felt like a special place with a rich history and fantastic staff, but limited food choices were a downside.
Staying at the Park Inn was truly an experience due to its beautiful architectural design and rich history associated with Frank Lloyd Wright. The rooms were spacious, comfortable, and surprisingly equipped with modern amenities, while the tours offered added to the allure. However, options for dining nearby were limited, and the restaurant was closed during our visit which made finding meals a bit challenging.
Staying at the Park Inn was an unforgettable experience, with stunning architecture and rich historical value that truly captivated me. The beds were incredibly comfortable, ensuring a great night's sleep. While the shower was nice, I did miss having a tub. The dining experiences at the bar and restaurant were top-notch, although I found the hours a bit limited. Overall, it's an exceptional place for Frank Lloyd Wright enthusiasts, but there's definitely room for improvement in certain amenities.
Staying at this hotel was an incredible experience thanks to its unique design and rich history tied to Frank Lloyd Wright. The accommodations felt warm and inviting, making it feel like a home away from home. However, dining options were somewhat limited during my stay, and the breakfast offerings could use some improvement. Despite this, the overall atmosphere and attention to detail within the hotel definitely made it a memorable getaway.
My stay at the Historic Park Inn was a charming journey through architecture and history. The attention to Frank Lloyd Wright's design made the atmosphere feel unique. The room I stayed in was cozy, although I did find the dining options a bit lacking during my visit. The hotel itself provided a fascinating experience, but I wish there were more food options available.
